MEET COOPER AND BAILEY
by Diane Pannone
Cooper and Bailey live with their owner Hannah on Lago. They are both Shipoos a hybrid of a Shih Yzu and a Toy or Minature Poodle. Cooper is two (2) years old, weighs 20 lbs and was adopted by Hannah when he was 12 weeks old. His favorite activity is going to Dog Beach and playing in the water. He’s athletic, playful, friendly and affectionate. Hannah is teaching him to “surf” and he loves it!

Cooper’s companion is Bailey who is a one (1) year old Shipoo who weighs 13 lbs. He also loves going to Dog Beach. He runs down the ramp and up and down the embankments until he is covered in dirt. His favorite thing to do is “collect shells”. He goes along the beach picking up shells in his mouth and chewing on them. He has shells at home that he plays with every day! Hannah says both dogs are a joy to see playing at the beach.

Bailey is more of a lap dog than Cooper and is also playful, friendly and affectionate. Hannah walks them around the complex several times a day and they have numerous doggie friends they play with on their walks. They also love attention from the humans they see on their walks! ■

MEET “MAUDE”
by Diane Pannone

Let us introduce you to “Maude”. Maude is a beautiful, three year old Basset Hound who is a Champion show dog. She lives with her owner Cathy Hubbling on the Grunion side of Harbour Vista.

Maude shows about once a month in local dog shows. On August 21st of this year she received her first “Best of Winners” Championship award from the Santa Barbara/Conejo Kennel Club.“Best of Winners” is the top show dog award. She beat out the male dog. Show dogs are judged on many points including having a real straight back. For Halloween, Cathy dresses Maude in her Princess costume and they go “trick or treat” at the dog shows.

Until recently Maude lived with two other “Champion” Basset Hounds, Chloe and Penny, also owned by Cathy. Unfortunately both Chloe and Penny passed away earlier this year. Chloe passed away in May and Penny in July.

Chloe and Penny had lived at Harbour Vista for fifteen years and had a long string of Championship awards to their names. Chloe and Penny were litter mates and came to live with Cathy when they were 10 months old. Of course both Maude and Cathy miss their fellow companions.

Cathy is planning to adopt another Basset Hound puppy from a fellow Basset Hound lover when a new litter of puppies arrives. She said she will probably name the new puppy “Harold” in honor of the comedy movie “Harold & Maude”.

Harbour Vista News will let our readership know when the new puppy arrives.

MEET ATHENA
by Diane Pannone

Athena is a seven (7) year old Borzoi who lives with her owner Nina on Lago. Her quiet elegance exemplifies a quiet, well mannered house dog. She was adopted by Nina when she was 4 months old. She has grown to be a graceful 80lbs. and stands about 3 feet tall. She is cat like, quiet, independent, doesn’t demand attention and can seem very aloof. She is also very sensitive so you have to be gentle with her. One of her hind legs was badly broken and could not be fixed by surgery so the leg had to be amputated. Athena has adjusted to life with 3 legs beautifully.

The Borzoi breed is a sight dog that hunts by sight rather than scent. The breed came from Russia and is also called a Russian Wolf Hound. They were treasured by Tolstoy and the Russian aristocrats.
Athena loves to go outside and see her doggie friends who live in the complex. She is partial to the smaller dogs who visit with her when she is outside. She loves to sit on the grass and just watch the world go by.
If you see her sitting on the grass, stop and say hello, but don’t be surprised if she is in her “aloof” mood and doesn’t get too excited to see you.■

MEET “BEUTEE”
by Diane Pannone

This month Harbour Vista News is featuring a dog resident named BEUTEE. Beutee is a 9 ½ year old black and white Border Collie who lives with her owner and companion Toni Lund and her friend Missy Blue, a 15 year old kitty. Toni and Beutee are new residents in Harbour Vista having just moved to Harbour Vista recently.

Beutee does not let Toni out of her sight and loves to go along with her for car rides. Toni says Beutee is very protective of her and a very good watch dog.

Beutee likes to go out for walks around the complex and likes meeting other dogs and people in the complex. Toni is on her electric scooter and Beutee is on her leash running along in front of Toni. Both Beutee and Toni really love going around the property meeting friendly residents and other friendly dogs. If you see them, stop and say hello and give Beutee a pet, she loves the attention.

When Beutee was just a couple of years old, Toni’s husband (who is now deceased), built a really cool dog house condo which is now a private residence for Beutee on Toni’s patio. Kind of a “condo” within a condo!

Remarks: This article introduces a new running series about the pets at Harbour Vista. If you have a pet that you would be of interests to your neightbors in this publication, please contact us. Hey cat owners lets not let Harbour Vista just go to the dogs. - Michael Barto
