PET OF THE MONTH
MEET "ELVIS"
by Diane Pannone
Elvis is a handsome 11 month old Australian Shepherd who lives with his owners on Cabana. He was adopted when he was 8 weeks old and has grown to 53 pounds. He's very friendly and energetic. He loves going to dog beach and has doggie play dates at the dog park in Newport Beach. His 2 best doggie friends in Harbour Vista are Bailey and Cooper, two small white dogs that live on Lago. They have great fun playing together. The Australian Shepherd dog is an intelligent, energetic breed with strong herding and guarding instincts. They thrive on lots of mental and physical exercise. They need a sense of purpose to be truly content. Elvis is still in his puppy stage and craves lots of attention and play from the humans in his life. He is very friendly and likes to meet new people. For halloween, Elvis was dressed in his Bumble Bee costume. If you see him out on a walk stop and say hello.■

PET OF THE MONTH
MEET REX
by Diane Pannone
REX, aka “Wreck it Ralph” is a very handsome two year old Alaskan Malamute who weighs 75lbs.

He has red hair and olive green eyes and was born on St. Patrick’s Day. Rex is a rescue dog. His owner found him walking along a road in Oklahoma when he was 8 months old. She notified the local authorities that she had him. When no one claimed him she adopted him and brought him back home to Huntington Beach.

He loves to go to Dog Beach and the dog park where he can play in the ocean and exercise. When he wants to go out for a walk he goes over to one of his family members and gently takes their hand in his mouth and leads them to the front door. Too cute!

The Malamute is the largest and oldest of the Artic sled dogs. They have great strength and endurance. Many Malamutes are family pets. They are highly athletic and enjoy sledding, weight pulling, back packing, jogging and swimming with their owners.
Not only is Rex a handsome fella, he’s also very friendly. So, if you see him and his owners walking around the complex stop and say hello and give him a pet! ■

PET OF THE MONTH
Meet Loki
by Diane Pannone
Loki is a four year old Poochin hybrid dog that lives on Lago. His owner likes to joke that he was a “layaway” dog since she saw him at the Pet Store and wanted him, so she gave a “down payment” on him. She went to visit him several times over the next two weeks until she could pay for him and bring him home.

The Poochin is created by crossing a pure bred Poodle with a Pure bred Japanese Chin. The Japanese Chin’s origin was in China. They were bred to accompany the ladies of the Imperial Palace and to warm the laps of aristocrats. Queen Victoria of England was given a gift of two Japanese Chins and from there they eventually came to America.
Loki loves to go to the dog park and dog beach where he can run circles and play with other dogs. While he is a little shy at first he will warm up to other dogs and have fun playing. He has his “group” of dog friends in the complex he likes to walk and play with. His best friend (BFF) is Spike (see picture), he even has sleep overs with Spike.

His owner says he is a real lap dog and wants to be with her all the time. He is an indoor dog who only requires moderate exercise and likes the creature comforts of his home. When outdoors, he likes to lay on the cool cement for about half an hour just watching the world go by…with his owner close by of course!■
